Getting started with Knockout.js

Knockout.js is a JavaScript library and it helps us to create high responsive, very rich and interactive JavaScript UI adhering to MVVM pattern. It simplifies the task of binding data from Data Model to JavaScript UI. It is a pure JavaScript library and it works with almost all the browsers. It is an open source project under the license of MIT. It is very compact in size. Its zipped size is 13kb and it can be added over any existing web application.

JSBasic - A BASIC to JavaScript Compiler

In this article, a translator is written which takes a program written in BASIC and converts it to JavaScript. The purpose of this project is not just for the nostalgia of being able to write programs in BASIC again, but also to demonstrate how one can go about writing a compiler in C#.

Being able to define a language and write a compiler for it will not only give you insight into how the programming languages you use work, but it's useful in a number of real-world scenarios, such as writing a custom rules engine for a business application, allowing things such as levels in a game to be describable in a simple language, writing IDE add-ins, or writing a domain-specific language.

Microsoft Previews New JavaScript-Like Programming Language TypeScript

Today Microsoft released a developer preview of TypeScript, a new JavaScript-like programming language that is translated into JavaScript so that its apps can be run in any browser. The source code is licensed under Apache 2.0 and can befound on Codeplex.

Property Finder - a Cross-Platform HTML5 Mobile App

This article describes the development of a cross-platform HTML5 mobile app for searching UK property listings. The application uses JavaScript, Knockout, some elements from jQuery-Mobile and Apache Cordova (PhoneGap) for wrapping the application in order to deploy it to App-stores / marketplaces. I'll also demonstrate how to use PhoneGap Build to create the iOS version of the application without the need for a Mac computer. The application makes use of the publically available Nestoria APIs which provide various methods for querying their database of properties for sale and rent.
