Getting started with Knockout.js

Knockout.js is a JavaScript library and it helps us to create high responsive, very rich and interactive JavaScript UI adhering to MVVM pattern. It simplifies the task of binding data from Data Model to JavaScript UI. It is a pure JavaScript library and it works with almost all the browsers. It is an open source project under the license of MIT. It is very compact in size. Its zipped size is 13kb and it can be added over any existing web application.

What is MVVM Pattern? and what are the advantages of the MVVM approach?

As many companies are switching from WinfForms to WPF/Silverlight, several project managers recently asked me almost identical questions about MVVM:
What is MVVM Pattern? What are the advantages of the MVVM approach?
The purpose of this article is to answer these questions and to explain the MVVM pattern in the simplest possible way.
I assume that the article readers have not had any previous exposure to the MVVM pattern but have some knowledge of WPF or Silverlight.
Time permitting, I plan to write more MVVM articles which will include comparison of different MVVM frameworks and introduce a new MVVM framework.

Silverlight CommandBinding with Simple MVVM Toolkit

Silverlight 4 enables CommandBinding by using properties like Command and CommandParameter only for Button Base Class which means that CommandBinding can only support those elements in Silverlight which are derived from Button Base Class and will be executing only by Click event.  For e.g., button, Hyperlink Button, Repeat Button, menu controls etc. (N.B. In the previous version of Silverlight 4 CommandBinding was not possible).

Showing a busy indicator per view in Silverlight using MVVM

Silverlight uses the BusyIndicator for this behavior. Using MVVM, it might be a bit harder to implement the BusyIndicator in a correct way, but Catel provides the IPleaseWaitService for years which can be mocked easily during test scenarios.
