Demystifying unexpected redirects to login page in ASP.NET

Have you often configured the authorization settings of your website to specify areas with special access rules? One of the common scenarios is to create a website that should be available only to authenticated users. Future Mocking

Mocking legacy code is hard. Especially, if it's a third-party library and you have little control over how it's written. It is even more difficult to unit test a type that is instantiated internally. One can argue that it should be refactored to accept dependencies via constructor injection.  However, constraints such as time, budget, experience with the offending code, or even access to the source often prevent paying down the technical debt accumulated in these legacy systems.

Uploading Files with Telerik’s ASP.NET Async Upload Control More Flexible than Ever

From Q3.2012 RadAsyncUpload supports uploading files by dropping them not only over the upload itself but also over different DropZones on the page. This is easily achieved by setting theDropZones property which lists CSS selectors (with comma separators) allowing users to have a more intuitive functionality. More details can be found in this demo.

Introducing RadDataForm for Windows Phone

Almost each Windows Phone app implements scenarios in which user input is gathered. These scenarios include designing and implementing Pages with editor controls positioned in a layout panel (mostly stack layouts) with labels above them to describe their purpose and buttons at the end of the page to confirm the input. The validation logic, as well as the synchronization between editors and the properties of the edited object is mostly done manually by handling events, checking input values and setting target properties. Here are a couple of screenshots from our Tasks app demonstrating similar scenarios.

Quick Tips for Browser Dev Tools – The Console

Browser developer tools have been around for quite some time now, yet a surprising amount of current, or people looking in to becoming, web developers are unaware of them. This is why I wanted to spend some time on creating a short series looking at, what I think, are the important items to know about these great tools. This is actually the last post out of the series with part one covering the element inspector ant network resources, and part two going over the scripts tab. Today I want to take a look in to the all mighty console which is my most-used feature of any web development tool by far. I constantly sit and tinker in the console when I experiment with potential JavaScript to write before I jump back in to my IDE and actually update my code. It's the perfect playground because at the end of it all you just have to hit refresh and you're back at the beginning, just like those awesome Etch-A-Sketches of yore ;)

Pivotize your data with Telerik’s PivotGrid for WinForms

Our Q3 2012 release is coming closer and closer and I was eager to share that we have prepared a new pack of fresh enhancements that will energize your Windows Forms applications. In this blog, which is the first from a set of upcoming articles, I'd like to give you a glimpse of the major features that you will find in the Q3 2012 installment.

The top highlight of this release is RadPivotGrid (Beta) for WinForms. Initially introduced as a CTP in Q2 2012 SP1, RadPivotGrid became much more powerful in terms of stability and set of features. The previously available grouping, sorting, report filtering, aggregates, pivot field list, summary rows/columns, are now complemented by group filtering, printing, integration with RadChartView, and a bunch of field list improvements.

How to Build a Picture Gallery app for Windows Phone – Source Code Available

Software development, like many other things, is learned by studying theory and applying that theory to practice. While practicing however, it is also a good idea to learn existing software to reinforce the theory and also learn a trick or two that are not mentioned in the books.

Create an Appointment Tracking App with RadDatePicker & RadTimePicker.

We all have a variety of uses for collecting Date and Time information from a user. For example, tracking the time a patient arrives and departs from a hospital, to when a car was returned at a local car rental location to tracking expense reports. One of the controls that you may have found missing with Windows 8 XAML applications is the Date/Time Picker control. While the control exists for Windows 8 HTML Applications, it is very limited in its initial state. That is one of the reasons that Telerik has decided to make a more robust Date/Time Picker control and in this blog post we will explain how to use it in a simple app that keeps track of important appointments. So buckle up and let's get started.

Pie Chart: Taking Control of the Label

It is pretty straight-forward to create a pie chart with a simple label that identifies the "category" for each slice.  What is a bit trickier is to modify that label so that it shows not only the category, but the percentage each slice represents.

Showing 4 Data Points At Once: Financial Chart

Most charts show one point at a time on a Cartesian (x/y) coordinate. That is, a single point might indicate that July sales were $525MM while August sales (a second point) were $350MM. The chart might also show a line connecting the two points to show the change in value. But each individual entry is typically a single point on the coordinate system.

Creating a Bar Chart with RadCartesianChart, part of Telerik Windows 8 UI Controls

In an earlier blog post I reviewed how to create a line chart using RadChart for RadBarChartMetro. In this blog post I will review how to create a bar chart, and no doubt you will notice some striking similarities.

All of this is done with the Telerik Windows 8 UI Controls.

We'll begin with the data. Our bar chart will compare revenues for five stores.
