What is JSON?

For some of you this question might be the easiest to answer. But for many developers concept of JSON is not well understood. In my seminars when I use JSON data for demo, I find many developers do not have understanding of JSON. In this post I am trying to address this problem.

In simple words, "JSON is a data interchange format. Due to its lightweight characteristics it is being highly used to exchange data between different platforms and applications"

Ext JS 4 MVC-Tutorial : Sencha Designer

Traditionally, ExtJs projects were developed using text editors like Vim, Emacs or Notepad, and today you can continue using it, but there's a new tool to help building ExtJs applications: Sencha Designer.

Sencha Designer is the new evolution of ExtJs Designer. The previous version allowed us to create Views that can be integrated to our projects, and extended using a text editor, but the newest incarnation allows much more than that, now it's a complete ide, even with a text editor included.

One drawback (to me) of the new Sencha Designer is that if you choose to create a project using it, you will be forced to use it from the very beginning of your application. For example you can't start an app using your text editor, then continue using Sencha Designer, for me this is a major problem. Imagine a workgroup composed of some developers using Sencha Designer (front end designers) and others using just text editors, if a programmer adds a View by hand, this view is not imported automatically to Sencha Designer and can't be modified by the front end designer.

ExtJS and a Simple MVC (Model-View-Controller) – Tutorial – Part 1

MVC – Model View Controller has become quite the standard when developing highend software applications, but what has it meant for web applications? Lately, even on the web, it has become quite the "done thing", especially with the support of frameworks such as Symfony and YUI (PHP). That's why I will be taking a look at the new ExtJS 4.1 – JavaScript framework with MVC support.

How To Set Up an HTTPS Service in IIS

HTTPS is a secure communications channel that is used to exchange information between a client computer and a server. It uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). This article describes how to configure the SSL/HTTPS service in Internet Information Services (IIS) and compares this process to the similar process in Apache.

Configure SSL on Your Website with IIS

By default, web browsing is being performed by use of the HTTP protocol, i.e. a connection between the client computer (using a web browser) to the web server (using IIS, Apache or any other sort of web server program). HTTP relies on TCP (Transmition Control Protocol) and uses port 80 on the listening server.

The main security issue with HTTP is the fact that all the traffic between the client and the server is done as clear text, meaning that anyone could potentially "listen" to your talk and grab frames and valuable information from the net.

To secure the transmission of information between your web server running IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003 and your browser clients, you can encrypt the information being transmitted by using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).

Why Is Your Web Page Not Behaving as Expected – Troubleshooting Web Page Scripts

Today I want to continue this series and cover another useful aspect of web development tools – the Scripts tab. This tab not only allows you to inspect all of the JavaScript that has been downloaded to the client, it also allows you to set up breakpoints and debug your JS, which is tremendously helpful! In the earlier days we had to rely on writing alerts left and right, which is kind of like attempting to do heart surgery with a blind fold on (well OK, maybe not just like that, but it was pretty difficult/annoying :P).
